"It's All About the Dogs"

Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization which rescues and heals displaced, abandoned, and homeless Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes, regardless of their age or health. Homeward Bound secures safe, loving homes through a comprehensive adoption program, and also provides lifetime sanctuary for Goldens that cannot be adopted.

Homeward Bound takes a holistic approach to rescue, customizing our approach to meet each dog’s unique needs. As one of the few Golden rescues with a facility – we can welcome dogs who might not otherwise be saved. Sanctuary is provided to dogs that may not be adoptable - and makes our rescue unique. While some dogs find refuge on the grounds, others are cared for by permanent fosters or are matched through our Golden Touch: A Senior-to-Senior Connection program with retired persons and couples who are age 60+, and live on a limited income. “Home” is our goal for each and every dog, whether that home is with us, or with others.

Currently, 100 dogs are supported in permanent foster through our Foster Program by individuals who make room in their hearts and homes knowing that the dog’s time may be limited. Special dogs have special needs: medications, prescription foods, and care. Homeward Bound provides all of the dogs’ medical and special food needs when in permanent foster.

Others are adopted through our Golden Touch program. Those approaching their own golden years know that seniors still have much to give and love to offer. Because they can provide loving homes to an older dog, we help retired people of a certain age and limited income make a senior-to-senior connection – an adoption without fee, with the dogs’ needs met by Homeward Bound.

For those who remain with us at our 8-acre country setting just outside Sacramento, we have built a special place called Sugar Shack Acres. Our sanctuary dogs have a dedicated house, yard – and even a pool for those with mobility and rehab concerns.
